DANNY ERA
I indulge in times bygone.
That was a winter, not cold at all. We met for some fun together.
An inverted timepiece, a night no longer dark.
After nightfall, the lurking scorpions stretched their limbs.
He was always sharper and quicker than expected.
Along the road, he stomps; eagerly, desperately.
Every other scent, color, or light was his excuse at getting loose.
I and him both, reinless night strollers.
The disco’s thump did not wipe away our anxiety.
The vodka and whisky incarcerated countless masks and facades.
Yes, after our first elixir of joy, everything went drunk for us.
Yet, there were so much we hadn’t learn.
The shadow does not belong to the night.
We thought that our determination and stubbornness would carry through, changing the color of our puzzles. He yearned for a red as bright as a ruby. I pursued that unreachable Turkish blue… And so secretly we broke the bottle of rules, promising ourselves to live ecstatically. We invested so much into our small moment.
Afterwards, I accompanied him briefly through the winding path, visiting the cherished golden fields of our memory.
He was a scorpion, always out looking for fun.
Lingering over the scattered and distanced scene of midnight.
Danny Chan’s portrayal in An Autumn’s Tale.
